You may have heard about Website design software that lets you create pages without knowing any language. With these programs, you create a page in WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) mode, adding and formatting text and images much as you do in a word processor. Behind the scenes, the program creates the necessary code for you.

Sounds like a good idea, but is it really? Yes or no. It is right that these programs save a lot of time, but just as you can’t learn really English by just using Microsoft Word, you can’t learn about Web design from WYSIWYG program. Without an understanding of language, you will never be a good Webmaster. Sometimes, you need to go in and tweak the language manually, which requires knowledge on your part. My advice is to start by designing you Web pages manually; writing code by hand with a code editor (Notepad being the best).

Web server

A web server is a system that stores and shares web files. All the users access these web files with their web browser. Every time you go to any web page you are accessing one or other server. A web server has following functions

  1. Storage: Every web page, graphic, and script needs to be stored on a web server.
  2. Share Files: Based on the requests send by the user, it provides the files through the Internet to a viewer’s browser.
  3. Analytics: Web server normally keeps track of all the people accessing the website’s files and captures data about them.

When you put files on your web server, the company that owns the server is hosting your site. It is important to choose a suitable hosting company during the planning stage because the features or limitations of your hosting choice may influence your website at the time building it.
